A spokesman for NASA confirmed that Trona, California (a small town in the Mojave Desert), will be the location for a series of launches scheduled to begin early in 2026. This announcement was made at a White House Press Conference just before President Trump made a short speech in which he outlined his reasons for backing the continued expansion of the space program.
A small group of protesters from Trona demonstrated in front of the White House at the time of the announcement. Their chief complaint was that they were afraid that the launch site would prove to be an eye sore. A spokesman for the group explained that Trona was proud of its beautiful chemical plant and that they didn't want to see the rare beauty of the plant tarnished by a NASA launch site.
