Arithmetic Grade Six

Lesson One Hundred-Thirteen: Improper Fractions

In this lesson we will be dealing with a lot of improper fractions. Take this problem for instance:

	 11 7
	--- * --- =
	 2 6

Since we can't reduce in any way, we just multiply the
numerators and denominators and get 77/12. (In this lesson
we won't bother converting to mixed numbers.)

Here's another example:

	 5 8
 	--- * --- =
	 4 3

We can cross-reduce the 8 and the 4 which will
	change the problem to this:

	 5 2
	--- * --- =
	 1 3

Now we just multiply and we get 10/3.

Now you get to try a few for yourself.
