Arithmetic Grade Six

Lesson One Hundred-one: Adding and Subtracting Fractions

Subtracting Fractions With Like Denominators

    * Numerator: Just add the top numbers.
    * Denominator: Leave the bottom numbers alone.
    * Reduce if necessary.

Subtracting fractions is easy as long as the denominators are the same.

Here are a few examples:

    3/10 - 1/10 = 2/10 = 1/5		5/15 - 3/15 = 2/15

    4/12 - 3/12 = 1/12			10/17 - 4/17 = 6/17

Now you get to try a few for yourself (reduce, if necessary).
