Arithmetic Grade Six

Lesson One Hundred-one: Adding and Subtracting Fractions

Adding Fractions With Like Denominators

In this lesson we will reduce any answers we get that must be reduced. The examples below show answers that must be reduced.

Here are a few examples:

    1/10 + 1/10 = 2/10 = 1/5 2/15 + 3/15 = 5/15 = 1/3

    4/12 + 6/12 = 10/12 = 5/6 1/18 + 5/18 = 6/18 = 1/3

Here are some more fractions sums that have to be reduced.

    4/10 + 1/10 = 1/2 1/8 + 3/8 = 1/2

    4/9 + 2/9 = 2/3 1/20 + 5/20 = 3/10

Now you get to try a few for yourself.
