Arithmetic Grade Six
Lesson One Hundred-one: Adding and Subtracting Fractions
Adding Fractions With Like Denominators
- Numerator: Just add the top numbers.
- Denominator: Leave the bottom numbers alone.
In this lesson we will reduce any answers we get that must be reduced. The
examples below show answers that must be reduced.
Here are a few examples:
1/10 + 1/10 = 2/10 = 1/5 2/15 + 3/15 = 5/15 = 1/3
4/12 + 6/12 = 10/12 = 5/6 1/18 + 5/18 = 6/18 = 1/3
Here are some more fractions sums that have to be reduced.
4/10 + 1/10 = 1/2 1/8 + 3/8 = 1/2
4/9 + 2/9 = 2/3 1/20 + 5/20 = 3/10
Now you get to try a few for yourself.
