You may have noticed that when you eat at a restaurant that has waitpersons, that it is customary to leave a tip. A tip is a way of showing appreciation for a service performed. There usually is no requirement that you leave a tip, but waitpersons usually expect some kind of tip (or gratuity, as it is sometimes called).
