Arithmetic Grade Six

Lesson One Hundred twenty-four: Eating Pizza or Pie

Let's say you go to a pot luck dinner and they have three pies (cherry, apple, and pumpkin). Each pie is cut up into four pieces and you have two pieces from each pie. What part of a full pie did you eat in all?

	3 * 2 * 1/4 = 6/4 = 1 1/2

You actually ate more than one pie
	all by yourself!

Now let's say that you go to a party and there are six pizzas (anchovie, mushroom and onions, pepperoni, sausage, artichoke, and Canadian bacon). Each pizza is cut up into 8 pieces and you eat three pieces from each pizza. What fractional part of a full pizza did you eat?

	3 * 6 * 1/8 = 18/8 = 9/4 = 2 1/4

	That's a lot of pizza!

Now you get to practice more whole number and fraction multiplication.
