Lesson One Hundred Seventy-eight: Meters and Yards

Distance can be measured in yards and in meters. Yards and meters are pretty close to the same length, but not quite exactly. Consider the following approximate comparisons between distances in yards and meters.

100 meters equals approximately 110 yards
1500 meters equals approximately 1600 yards
3200 yards equals approximately 3000 meters

To convert meters to yards we use the conversion factor 1.094. (Remember that a meter is bigger than a yard.) That is, we multiply the number of meters by 1.094 to get the equivalent distance in yards. Here are a few examples:

DISTANCE IN METERS * CONVERSION FACTOR = DISTANCE IN YARDS
		10 * 1.094 =	10.94
		6 * 1.094 =	6.564
		12 * 1.094 =	13.128
		100 * 1.094 =	109.4
