Arithmetic Grade Six

Lesson One Hundred Seventy-seven: Kilograms and Pounds

Pounds and kilograms are both units used to measure how much something weighs. For instance, here are some equivalent weights as reported in pounds and kilograms:

	1 kilogram = 2.2 pounds

	.45 kilograms = 1 pound

	10 kilograms = 22 pounds

	45 kilograms = 100 pounds

The conversion factor used to convert kilograms to pounds is 2.2. That is, you take the weight in kilograms and multiply it by 2.2 in order to find the equivalent weight in pounds.

WEIGHT IN KILOGRAMS	* CONVERSION FACTOR	=	WEIGHT IN POUNDS
	10 * 2.2 = 22
	20 * 2.2 = 44
	13 * 2.2 = 28.6
	25 * 2.2 = 55
	100 * 2.2 = 220
