Lesson One Hundred Seventy-four: Volume of Cylinders



The volume of a cylinder is a measure of its capacity and is measured in cubic units. Take a look at the following cylinder:


      

To find the volume of this cylinder use the following formula:

	V = height * PI * radius2

Plugging in the numbers for each dimension we get:

	V = 5 * 3.14 * 32 = 5 * 3.14 * 9 = 141.3 cubic units
	
      In this lesson we round our answers to the nearest whole number
      value and so the answer, when rounded, becomes 141 cubic units.

Here's another example:

  Find the volume of this cylinder:

      

  V =  7 * 3.14 * 32 = 197.82
  Rounded to nearest whole: 198 cubic units
