Lesson One Hundred Sixty-eight: Time and Distance

If you know how long something travels at a constant speed, you can figure out how far that object has traveled. Consider this problem:

Jill rides her bike at a constant speed of
15 miles per hour for 2 hours without stopping.
How far did she ride her bike?

To solve this problem all we have to do is multiply the speed (15 mph) by the time (2 hours) to get the total distance traveled (15 mph * 2 hrs = 30 miles).

Here's another example:

Jimmy walked for four hours without stopping at a
constant rate of 4 miles per hour. How far did he
	walk?

Here we know that Jimmy:
  1. walked for 4 hours
  2. his speed was 4 miles per hour
So, we can find the distance he walked by multiplying 4 hours and 4 mph to get 16 miles total.

Here are some more examples presented in a table:

	TIME * SPEED = DISTANCE
	7 hrs 8 mph = 56 miles
        4 hrs * 2 mph = 8 miles
        3 hrs * 30 mph = 90 miles
        2 hrs * 45 mph = 90 miles
