Arithmetic Grade Six

Lesson Ten: Subtracting Negative Numbers

Subtracting a positive number is the same as adding a negative number:

	-4 - +9 = -13

	-4 + -9 = -13

We don't usually write a positive sign in front of a number since it is assumed that a number is positive unless a negative sign is written in front of it.

Here's another example:

	-4 - +5 = -9

	-4 + -5 = -9
