Remember these rules when rounding to the nearest 10th:
Consider the following examples:
3.66 -> 3.7 2.53 -> 2.5 1.99 -> 2.0 2.35 -> 2.4 2.92 -> 2.90 .95 -> 1.0
Rules for rounding:
1. If the number in the hundredths column is 4 or less round down. Example:
.42 -> .4.
2. If the number in the hundredths column is 5 or more round up. Example: .45 ->
.5.
Special Case:
If you have a number like 4.95 you have to remember that it will have to round up to 5.0. Many times students are confused by this situation.
Here are a few more examples to help you out:
4.44 -> 4.5 6.71 -> 6.7 7.88 -> 7.9 1.23 -> 1.2 2.35 -> 2.4 1.33 -> 1.3
