Lesson Sixty: Dividing Signed Numbers


Dividing signed numbers is just like multiplying signed numbers. Here are some examples:

	-30 ÷ 6 = -5			-30 ÷ -6 = 5

	30 ÷ -6 = -5			 30 ÷ 6  = 5

As you can see each of the quotients shown above come out to 5 or -5. So, how do you know which are negative and which are positive. The rules are simple:

	positive ÷ positive = positive
	positive ÷ negative = negative
	negative ÷ positive = negative
	negative ÷ negative = positive

You should notice that the rules are the same as for multiplication which should be of no surprise.
