Arithmetic Grade Six

Lesson Forty-nine: Word Problems

Jill has seven bags. Each bag contains twelve cookies. How many cookies does she have in all?

	7 x 12 = 84.

Since there are 7 bags and 12 cookies in each bag, there
	are 7 groups of 12 or 7 x 12 which equals 84.

Jill has four boxes. Each box contains 48 cans of soda. How many cans of soda are there in all?

	4 x 48 = 192.

Since there are 4 boxes and 48 cans in each box, there
	are 4 groups of 48 or 4 x 48 which equals 192.
