Arithmetic Grade Six

Lesson Sixty-four: Decimal Subtraction

Even when you have digits on both sides of the decimal point, subtracting is done as usual.

              3.586 4.331
            - 1.232 - 3.220
            -------- --------
              2.354 1.111

              4.487 4.556
            - 3.252 - 2.343
            -------- --------
              1.235 2.213

Just line up the decimal points and the columns will line up like they're supposed to.

        3.335 - 2.223 = 1.112 4.448 - 3.221 = 1.227

        3.458 - 2.134 = 1.324 3.997 - 2.102 = 1.895

If you want you can re-write each of these problems vertically.

Now you get to try a few for yourself.
