Lesson Sixty-two: Rounding to Nearest 1000th


Rounding to the nearest 1000th is only slightly different from rounding to the nearest 1000th. Here are a few examples:

  1.2221 ->  1.222	1.3556 -> 1.356		33.4444 -> 33.444

  3.5555 ->  3.556	2.0332 -> 2.033		4.1111 -> 4.111

  5.6777 ->  5.678	2.9332 -> 2.933		9.8888 -> 9.889

Rules for rounding to nearest 1000th :
  1. If the number in the ten-thousandths column is 4 or less round down. Example: 4.5333 -> 4.533.
  2. If the number in the ten-thousandths column is 5 or more round up. Example: 1.4335 -> 1.434.
Special Information About the Ten-thousandths Column

The ten-thousandths column is the next column to the right of the thousandths column. In the value 29.8443, the digit 3 is in the ten-thousandths column.
