Lesson Thirty-five: Time Word Problems

We're going to talk about movies in this lesson. We aren't going to talk about what movies are about or the actresses or actors who appear in them. Instead we will discuss their length. A typical move lasts anywhere from one hour, ten minutes to about two hours, ten minutes. Some are even longer, but most are at least one hour, ten minutes long.

If we know when a movie starts and how long it is, we can figure out when it ends. For instance:

	STARTING TIME: 3:15
	MOVIE LENGTH: 1:30
	ENDING TIME: ????

To solve this problem we add the starting time and the movie length. The answer will be the ENDING TIME.

	  3:15
	+ 1:30
	------
	  4:45

	ENDING TIME: 4:45

Here's another example:

	STARTING TIME: 3:45
	MOVIE LENGTH: 1:45

	SOLUTION:

	  3:45
	+ 1:45
	-------
	  5:30

	ENDING TIME: 5:30

Remember that 45 + 45 = 90 and that 90 minutes contains 1 hour with 30 leftover minutes. Always remember to carry the hour when necessary!
