Lesson One hundred and Thirty-five: Percents

Given a set of objects you can easily describe what part of them are a certain color using percents: 


	DATA:
	  Red balls: 11
	  Green balls: 6
	  Blue balls: 3

	QUESTION: What percent of the balls are blue?

	ANALYSIS: Since there are twenty balls in all, we know that
	  three out of twenty balls are blue. The fraction 3/20 equals
	  .15 which equals 15%.

	ANSWER: 15%
Here's another example: 

	DATA:
	  Red balls:   6
	  Green balls: 11
	  Blue balls:  3

	QUESTION: What percent of the balls are red?

	ANALYSIS: Since there are twenty balls in all, we know that
	  six out of the twenty balls are red. The fraction 6/20
	  equals .3 which equals 30%.

	ANSWER: 30%
