Lesson One hundred and Thirty-five: Percents

Given a set of objects you can easily describe what part of them are a certain color using percents:

	DATA:
	  Red balls: 4
	  Green balls: 3
	  Blue balls: 3

QUESTION: What percent of the balls are blue?

ANALYSIS: Since there are ten balls in all, we know that
three out of ten balls are blue. The fraction 3/10 equals
	  .3 which equals 30%.

	ANSWER: 30%

Here's another example:

	DATA:
	  Red balls: 6
	  Green balls: 1
	  Blue balls: 3

QUESTION: What percent of the balls are red?

ANALYSIS: Since there are ten balls in all, we know that
six out of the ten balls are red. The fraction 6/10
	  equals .6 which equals 60%.

	ANSWER: 60%
