Lesson One hundred and Fifty-eight: Square Area


How many square feet are there in one square yard?
We know that one yard is three feet long. So, there are 9 square feet in a square yard since 3 x 3 = 9.

How many square feet are there in a square with sides 2 yards long?
We know that a square with sides 2 yards long has an area of 4 square yards (2x2=4). Therefore, this same square has an area of 36 square feet since a yard is 3 feet long and 6x6=36.

How many square inches are there in one square foot?
We know that one foot is twelve inches long. So, there are 144 square inches in a square foot since 12 x 12 = 144.

How many square inches are there in a square with sides 3 feet long?
We know that a square with sides 3 feet long has an area of 9 square feet (3x3=9). Therefore, this same square has an area of 1296 square inches since 36x36=1296.
