Arithmetic Grade Five
Lesson Ninety-one: Subtracting Fractions
Subtracting Fractions With Like Denominators
- Numerator: Just add the top numbers.
- Denominator: Leave the bottom numbers alone.
- Reduce if necessary.
Subtracting fractions is easy as long as the denominators are the same.
Here are a few examples:
3/10 + 1/10 = 2/10 = 1/5 5/15 + 3/15 = 2/15
4/12 + 3/12 = 1/12 10/17 + 4/17 = 6/17
Now you get to try a few for yourself. (Reduce, if necessary.)
