Lesson One Hundred and Sixteen: Mixed and Fraction Division


You should think about why the problems in this lesson all have answers which are whole numbers.

Here's another example for you to study:


	ORIGINAL PROBLEM: 			2 1/6 ÷ 1/6 =

	CONVERT MIXED TO IMPROPER:		13/6 ÷ 1/6 =

	FLIP and CHANGE OPERATION:		13/6 * 6/1 =

	REDUCE (if possible):			13/1 * 1/1 =

	MULTIPLY:				13

In the last problem we had to find how many sixths would fit into two and one-sixth. When we convert two and one-sixth to thirteen-sixths, the answer becomes apparent. How many sixths can you get out of thirteen-sixths?

Here's another example:


	ORIGINAL PROBLEM: 			2 1/5 ÷ 1/5 =

	CONVERT MIXED TO IMPROPER:		11/5 ÷ 1/5 =

	FLIP and CHANGE OPERATION:		11/5 * 5/1

	REDUCE (if possible):			11/1 * 1/1 =

	MULTIPLY:				11
