Lesson Nineteen: Perimeter and Area

Given a rectangle you can now find both its perimeter and area.

     AREA = 12 x 32 = 384 square units

     PERIMETER = 12 + 12 + 32 + 32 = 88 units

We could also simply describe a rectangle and figure out its area and perimeter like this:

    Find the area and perimeter of a rectangle with
         length: 10
         width:   5

    AREA: 50 square units
    PERIMETER: 30 units

This is so because the area is just the length multiplied by the width (5 x 10 = 50) and the perimeter is the total distance around the shape ( add the widths and the lengths like this: 5 + 5 + 10 + 10 = 30).
