Arithmetic Grade Five

Multiplying decimals and wholes is just like multiplying wholes except you have to know what to do about the decimal point.


	100 x .5 = 50		100 x .25 = 25

	10 x .8 = 8		30 x .4 = 12

	40 x .9 = 36		50 x .1 = 5

Why don't any of these answers have decimal parts to them? Consider this example:


	  100
	 x .5
	------
	 50.0

We drop the .0 at the end of 50.0 since it is optional.

Here's another example:


	   20
	 x .4
	-------
	  8.0

We drop the .0 at the end of 8.0 since it is optional.
