Converting between degrees Celcius and degrees Fahrenheit is something you will learn in a later grade. For now you should simply realize that both are used to measure temperature. The neat thing about the Celsius system is that two important temperatures for boiling and freezing match up with 100 and 0 which makes a lot of sense. In Fahrenheit boiling is at 212° and freezing is at 32°.
Here are a couple sample word problems involving temperature.
When Willy woke up the temperature outside was 45°F. Three hours later it rose by 11°F. What was the new temperature? SOLUTION: Add 45 and 11 to get 56°F.
When Wanda woke up the temperature outside was 60°F. At noon the temperature was 76°F. How much did the temperature rise? SOLUTION: Subtract 60 from 76 to get 16°F.
