Arithmetic Grade Four

Even when the answer to a division problem has a remainder, you can still use multiplication to help check the answer.


      21 / 5 = 4 r1  -->  5 x 4 + 1 = 21

      33 / 6 = 5 r3  -->  6 x 5 + 3 = 33

      24 / 7 = 3 r3  -->  7 x 3 + 3 = 24

Of course, this will also work with much larger problems:


     333 / 10 = 33 r3  --> 10 x 33 + 3 = 333

     251 / 6  = 41 r5  -->  6 x 41 + 5 = 251

     788 / 9  = 87 r5  -->  9 x 87 + 5 = 788
