Arithmetic Grade Four

Lesson One hundred and forty-one: LENGTH: inches, feet, yards

You probably already know about inches, feet, and yards. So, this information is just a review, most likely.

        12 inches = 1 foot
         3 feet = 1 yard
        36 inches = 1 yard

Knowing this much, it should be fairly easy to answer these questions:

Question One: How many feet in nine yards?

Since there are three feet in one yard, you just multiply
the number of yards (9) by the number of feet per yard (3).

        9 x 3 = 27

Question Two: How many inches in five feet?

There are twelve inches in a foot. So, you just multiply the
number of feet (5) by the number of inches per foot (12).

       5 x 12 = 60

Question Three: How many inches in 3 yards?

You know that there are 36 inches in a yard. Therefore, all you
have to do is multiply the number of yards (3) by the number of
     yards (3).

        3 x 36 = 108
