Arithmetic Grade Four

Lesson One hundred and seven: Subtracting Decimal Values

Even when you have digits on both sides of the decimal point, subtracting is done as usual.

              3.58 4.33
            - 1.23 - 3.22
           -------- --------
              2.35 1.11

              4.48 4.55
            - 3.25 - 2.34
           -------- --------
              1.23 2.21

Just line up the decimal points and the columns will line up like they're supposed to.

        3.33 - 2.22 = 1.11 4.44 - 3.22 = 1.22

        3.45 - 2.13 = 1.32 3.99 - 2.10 = 1.89

If you want you can re-write each of these problems vertically.

Now you get to try a few for yourself.
