Arithmetic Grade Four

Lesson One hundred and twenty-five: Division Patterns

Study the following division problems.

	8 / 8 = 1

        80 / 8 = 10

        800 / 8 = 100

        8000 / 8 = 1000

You should notice a pattern here. First of all the answer you get has the same number of zeroes as the first number in the division problem. Secondly, 8 divided by 8 still equals 1 no matter how many zeroes are involved!

Here's another example:

       9 / 9 = 1

       90 / 9 = 10

       900 / 9 = 100

       9000 / 9 = 1000

Try a few for yourself!
