Arithmetic Grade Four

Lesson One hundred and twenty-six: Dividing by TEN

Here are some more dividing by ten kind of problems, only these have remainders.

	899 / 10 = 89 r9

        546 / 10 = 54 r6

        812 / 10 = 81 r2

        834 / 10 = 83 r4

There is definitely a real easy to see pattern here! When we divide a number, like 231 by 10 our remainder will be the last digit and the whole number part of our answer will be the other digits: 231/10 = 23 r1.

Here are a few more examples, just for the fun of it.

        321 / 10 = 32 r1

        755 / 10 = 75 r5

        331 / 10 = 33 r1

By the way, we could write these answer as decimal values (although we will not do decimal answers in this lesson). But, just for your information, we could also do the following:

       321 / 10 = 32.1

       755 / 10 = 75.5

       331 / 10 = 33.1
