Arithmetic Grade Four

Lesson Forty-four: Multiples of Ten

These problems are a little more difficult:

  30 x 6 = 180 4 x 20 = 80 2 x 400 = 800

  600 x 4 = 1200	2000 x 2 = 4000 5 x 30 = 150

Let's look at some more examples in more detail

  ORIGINAL PROBLEM	REORGANIZED PROBLEM	ANSWER

     30 x 6 3 x 6 x 10 180

     400 x 8 4 x 8 x 100 3200

     4 x 300 4 x 3 x 100 1200

     6 x 2000 6 x 2 x 1000 1200

     7 x 600 7 x 6 x 100 4200

To solve these problems we multiple the first number of our multiple of ten by the single digit value and then we multiply that product by the multiple of ten to arrive at our final product.

   MULTIPLE OF TEN	SINGLE DIGIT

      3000 x 4

   REORGANIZED:

       3 x 4 x 1000
