Lesson Six: Subtraction Review


Another way of illustrating subtraction problems is to use a number line like this:

The green dot represents the first number in the problem (4 in this case). The red line represents the amount that you take away from the first number (3 in this case). The red dot represents the answer to the subtraction problem (1 in this case).

Here's another example:

We have 5-2=3 as our problem in this example. The green dot is positioned above the 5. The red line is 2 segments long. The red dot is positioned above the 3.
