Lesson Nineteen: Division Review

Dividing into Sets

If you have a pile of 42 raisons and you want to divide them into 6 equal sets, you will end up with 7 in each set since 6 x 7 = 42 and 42 / 6 = 7.

Let's say you have a bag with 8 donuts in it. Let's say that four people want as many of those donuts as they can get, but they are willing to cooperate and share the donuts equally. How many donuts will each person get?

We can translate this word story problem into:

  8 divided into 4 sets

  or

  8 / 4 = 2

Let's say that you have 24 paper clips and you want to separate them into sets containing 6 paper clips. How many sets of six can you get?

We can translate this problem into:

  or
