Arithmetic Grade Four
Lesson Seventy-seven: Converting Improper Fractions To Mixed Numbers
Here's a review of the last lesson:
Converting Improper Fractions to Mixed Numbers
There are three steps:
1. Divide the numerator by the denominator.
2. The quotient is your whole number.
3. The remainder is your numerator.
Remember to reduce if necessary.
THIS IS THE NEW PART IN THIS LESSON: REDUCE IF NECESSARY!
Example:
Improper Fraction: 32/10.
Step One: 32 divided by 10 equals 3 with a remainder of 2.
Step Two: The quotient was 3, so you use this as the whole number.
Step Three: The remainder was 2, so this is your new numerator.
Reduce: 2/10 can be reduced to 1/5.
Mixed Number: 3 1/5.
Now you get to try a few.
