Arithmetic Grade Four

Lesson Sixty-two: Fraction Pictures

Fractions: Numerators and Denominators
Numerator: The top number of a fraction. In this example the numerator represents the number of filled squares.

Denominator: The bottom number of a fraction. In this example the denominator represents the total number of squares (filled and unfilled).

Here's another example:
Numerator: The top number of a fraction. In this case the numerator will be 18 since there are 18 filled squares.

Denominator: The bottom number of a fraction. In this example the denominator will be 24 since there are a total of 24 squares.

Fraction: 18/24
