Lesson Fifty-Three: Estimation, Rounding, and Division
Before we discuss estimation, rounding and division, let's try a few
problems. First of all, take a look at this problem:
You probably recognize that 36 / 6 = 6, but how does that help us with 3600
/ 6? Let's rewrite the problem with the answer like this:
Notice that the 6 (from 36/6) gets written right above the hundreds column
and we fill in the rest of the answer with zeroes.
Here's another example complete with the answer:
Here we have 56 / 7 = 8 with zeroes filled in after the 8.
It might make you feel better if we check our answer by using multiplication
(remember that multiplication is the opposite of division):
