You probably already learned about the thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones columns. We will review these columns before continuing on with this lesson.

In the table shown above the 5 is in the thousands column, the three is in the hundreds column, the 6 is in the tens column and the 2 is in the ones column. Often a comma is placed between the thousands and hundreds column like this:

On the next page you will be asked to identify the digit that is in a column. For instance, if you are given the number 3852 and asked which digit is in the tens column, the correct answer would be 5. Another example: if you are shown the number 4192 and asked which digit is in the hundreds column, the correct answer would be 1.
