Arithmetic Grade Four

Lesson Thirty-three: Subtraction Problems

Think about this sample problem:

     57
    -38
    ----

Remember the steps we take when doing this kind of problem:
  1. Borrow from the tens column (cross out 5, write a 4 by it, and write a 1 in front of the 7)
  2. Subtract the ones column (17 - 8 = 9)
  3. Subtract the tens column (4 - 3 = 1)

On the next page you get to do a few for yourself. Use a piece of scratch paper to do your work and then type in the answer.
