Arithmetic Grade Three
Lesson One hundred sixty-five: Volume
Volume
The volume or capacity of a container can be measured in cups, pints,
quarts, gallons (or a few other units that we won't deal with in this
lesson). Remember the following information:
2 cups = 1 pint
4 cups = 1 quart
2 pints = 1 quart
4 quarts = 1 gallon
It would be a real good idea to take a look at actual measuring cups and
containers to get
a clear idea of what cups, pints, quarts, and gallons look like. You might
want to go to the kitchen and experiment with filling cups and containers
with water to get a really good feel for the sizes of these units.
