Arithmetic Grade Three

Lesson Ninety-seven: Identities

Division

There are three basic division identities you should know about:

  1) Zero divided by anything is zero.
       (example: 0 ÷ 9 = 0)

  2) Any number divided by one is that number.
       (example: 9 ÷ 1 = 9)

  3) Any number divided by itself is one.
       (example: 9 ÷ 9 = 1)

Here are a few examples showing these identities.

	9 ÷ 9 = 1 54 ÷ 1 = 54

	0 ÷ 9 = 0 0 ÷ 14 = 0

	8 ÷ 1 = 8 72 ÷ 72 = 1
