Arithmetic Grade Three

Lesson Seventy-eight: Multiplication Review

Multiplication facts should become automatic for you. You should practice them so much that you can do them without hardly even thinking about them. There are some tricks that help here and there, but mostly you just have to practice a lot to get good at your multiplication facts.

Spending time getting really good at your multiplication facts now can save you a lot of time in the future when you are expected to learn more difficult arithmetic skills.

Here's a trick that might help you remember your nines. First of all, look at them multiples of nine:

	9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90

If you add the digits of each one of these numbers, you will find that you get a sum of nine. For instance, let's take 72 as an example. The digits of 72 are 7 and 2 and if we add them together we get 9. You can do that for each of the two digit multiples of nine.
