Ordinals are very useful when talking about the order in which things happen. For instance, think about the first ten things you do when you wake up in the morning. Here's a list made by a second grade student:
  • FIRST: get out of bed
  • SECOND: wash up
  • THIRD: comb hair
  • FOURTH: get dressed
  • FIFTH: eat breakfast
  • SIXTH: brush teeth
  • SEVENTH: make bed
  • EIGHTH: feed dog
  • NINTH: check assignments
  • TENTH: start working
