Lesson One hundred forty-three: Grid Multiplication


We can represent multiplication problems with pictures:
3 x 4 = 12
The picture shows a large rectangle three cubes tall and four cubes wide. If you count all the cubes you will find that there are 12 of them.

Here's another example:
5 x 3 = 15
The picture shows a large rectangle five cubes tall and three cubes wide. If you count all the cubes you will find that there are 15 of them.
