As you know, you don't always have to regroup. Here's a problem in which it is necessary for you to regroup:

Adding the 4 and 7 in the ones column we get 11. We take the 1 from 11 and place it in the ones column of the answer and we carry the 1 above the tens column above the addends.

We add up the 1, 3, and 1 in the tens column.
