Is 33 closer to 30 or 40? ANSWER: 30


Is 47 closer to 40 or 50? ANSWER: 50


Is 88 closer to 80 or 90? ANSWER: 90


Is 76 closer to 70 or 80? ANSWER: 80


NOTE: This time the student has to be able to answer this kind of question without the aid of a number line. Go over a few examples to make sure the student can do these before going on to the activity. If the student has difficulty with these problems, show the student how to construct a number line to help determine the answer.
