Lesson One hundred forty: Spinner


Spinner
This spinner has two possible outcomes. The spinner can land on red or yellow. This illustration shows the outcome for 20 spins of the spinner:
yellow: 10
red: 10
This spinner has three possible outcomes. The spinner can land on red, yellow, or green. This illustration shows the outcome for 20 spins of the spinner:
yellow: 5
red: 9
green: 6
This spinner has four possible outcomes. The spinner can land on red, yellow, green, or magenta. This illustration shows the outcome for 20 spins of the spinner:
yellow: 3
red: 9
green: 5
magenta: 3
NOTE: It would be best if you and the student could either find or create a spinner for the student to experiment with. Otherwise explain that you never know where the spinner is going to land, but that when you keep track of large numbers of spins, the number of times the spinner lands on each possible outcome tends to even out (providing that the color zones are of equal size).
