Equal Groups

NO: There are 9 balls. You could make 4 groups of 2, but you would still have one left over.

NO: There are 5 balls. You could make 2 groups of 2, but you would still have one left over.

YES: There are 9 balls. You can make 3 groups of 3 without any extra balls.
NOTE: Explain that for groups to be equal in size they must all have the same number of members. Go over each example with the student. It would be a good idea to use some objects such as pennies or checkers to go through more examples of this kind of problem.
