NOTE: Explain to student that the number of dots can be shown using a digit. On the next page the student will click on the digit showing the number of dots in the red rectangle. Explain that each time the student clicks on the correct digit that another star appears on the progress bar at the top of the applet. (Clicking on the wrong digit results in the loss of a star.)

It may be a good idea to have the student practice naming numbers using manipulatives before attempting to complete the applet on the next page. For instance, four pennies could be used to help the student to differentiate between one, two, three, and four. Also drawing the digits for the student (and also the student drawing the digits) on a piece of paper and asking the student to point at each digit when prompted may also be necessary preparation for this applet.

Students may also need help becoming familiar with how to use a mouse or other pointing device.

Finally, say the title of the applet to the student. Point to each word and explain how to complete the applet.
