Prefixes: Over-

The prefix over- means beyond, higher, upper, or too much. Here are a few words which begin with this prefix:


	overall			overcome		overhead

	overhear		overpass		overtime

	overdrawn		oversleep		overrated

	overseas		oversized		overdue

	overnight		overdrive		overflow

You might have checked out a book and forgotten to turn it in on time. In this case your library book was overdue because you kept it past the date on which it was due.

	overdue - kept beyond due date

	oversleep - slept beyond time to get up

	overrated - rated higher than deserved

	overseas - beyond the seas

	overhead - illustration projected on high screen

	overtime - beyond regulation time

	overhear - to hear without the speaker's knowledge

	overflow - to fill beyond capacity
