Prefixes: poly

The prefix poly- means many or much. Here are some words beginning with the prefix poly-.


	polygon			polygraph		polymer

	polyp			polyurethane		polypeptide

Here are the meanings of some of these words:

	polygon - figure with many sides

	polypeptide - made of many peptides

	polymer - made of many parts

	polyurethane - polymer containing a urethane radical

	polygraph - records many things at once

The word paragraph comes from two Greek words which mean "to write beside". Greek writers used to put a little symbol next places in a long text where they were beginning to write about a new subject.
